Alice Mary Smith Symphony in C Minor

Charity orchestral playdays
Life-saving Symphonies are orchestral playdays, bringing together musicians to explore great symphonies while raising money for life-saving charities.
We enjoy exploring lesser-played works, which have included Louise Farrenc Symphony 3 and the first UK amateur performance of Emilie Mayer Symphony 7.
We began life online during the pandemic, performing 22 symphonies together. Between our vitual symphonies and our LSS playdays, we have raised ,more than £11,000 for charity.

ALICE MARY SMITH
SYMPHONY in C MINOR
On Saturday 1st November 2025, join us in Corsham Town Hall to explore this beautiful, under-played symphony.
Alice Mary Smith is the first known British woman to write a symphony. A pioneer in 19th-century England, she wrote two symphonies, six concert overtures, choral works, and a significant body of chamber music.
Her C minor symphony is both energetic and graceful:
join us to spend a day exploring this less-known work.

Participation is free, raising money for Cancer Research UK. CRUK’s mission is to bring about a world where everybody can lead longer, better lives, free from the fear of cancer. Every penny donated on the day will support their vital, life-saving work.
